Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild

1.Watch and Swim with Dolphins in the Wild

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 668 reviews · 3 hours 30 minutes (approx.) · from $105Our pick

From Marina Vallarta, a biologist guide and captain take you into Banderas Bay to find wild dolphins by sound. You may enter the water in small groups, using provided snorkel gear, while guides such as Camilla, Gema, or Gemma explain dolphin behavior and marine research.

“Maru and Ceasar were wonderful. Very informative on the dolphins and their behaviors. This is a wild life experience, so you have to be patient, but that patience will be rewarded. This was by far my favorite vacation activity ever. I truly appreciated being able to experience the dolphins with out supporting their captivity. The first pod we saw had several moms and babies, including one Maru said was less than 2 weeks old. That pod was curious but kept a bit away, and Maru respected that by finding another pod near by. The second pod was much more surious about ut and allowed 3 swims total for 2 groups.…”

Guides such as Jemma, Gemma, and Camilla explain animal behavior, use a hydrophone for whale song, and invite you to assist with research.

“This whale and dolphin watching tour was extraordinary. Our guide, Gema, had so much knowledge to share and a sparkling personality to match. My friend and I enjoyed every moment and felt the tour was just the right length. We could feel the guide's passion and excitement which infused the experience with so much joy. Cesar, our boat captain, was a quietly confident presence, we felt completely safe in his hands even on a super windy day. We also got lucky and saw SO many whales and dolphins, including mothers and babies playing together. This was a day we'll never forget!”

Akumal: Dolphin Encounter - The 15-minute introduction sets the tone
Dolphin Watching, Playa del Carmen Tours, Tour Reviews

Akumal: Dolphin Encounter

7.Akumal: Dolphin Encounter

★★★★★★★★★★4.4 · 56 reviews · from $99

Spend 15 minutes learning about dolphin care, diet, and behavior, then enjoy 40 minutes of guided games, handshakes, singing, and dancing in Akumal’s turquoise water. Spanish and English instruction is available. Guide Frida has earned praise for her warm, clear approach, but photos cost extra.

“We have to admit that it was a fantastic experience, thanks to the contact with the dolphins, and Frida, our guide, did a great job. We did feel a bit cheated that, in addition to paying a hefty price (€84/person for 40 minutes of contact with the dolphins), we also had to pay €240 if we wanted photos... it quickly adds up to an hour. During the interaction, the dolphins revolve around the photos, and the guide and photographer constantly keep an eye on each other, with the guide providing explanations when the photographer moves on to other groups. So, very commercially exploited!Read more”

Cancún: Dolphin Encounter on Isla Mujeres with Buffet - Meeting dolphins from an underwater platform

Cancún: Dolphin Encounter on Isla Mujeres with Buffet

8.Dolphin Encounter on Isla Mujeres with Buffet

★★★★★★★★★★4.3 · 56 reviews · 8 hours · from $95

Sail from Playa Langosta to Isla Mujeres, then meet dolphins from a waist-deep underwater platform with an English, Spanish, or Portuguese instructor. The program includes a buffet, soft drinks, lockers, showers, pools, and lounge chairs. Bring pesos for extras and plan carefully around the 9 AM ferry.

“Was fun getting so close to the dolphins, definitely memorable but the cost is not worth what you end up doing. I picked encounter, cheapest level, and it was about 30-40 minutes. But it’s spread amongst the group you’re in, so you maybe get 5-7 minutes. Cost if photos is crazy, and you can’t take your own or bring a go pro. I can’t say anything about the buffet, I missed it, was my own fault. You do get free time on the island but transportation to the centre is not included. The instructor was knowledgeable though.”

“Super expérience, réservée à la dernière minute. On vous amène sur un petit bateau, on vous donne masque et tuba et hop on saute à l’eau parmi les dauphins. Une expérience inédite! Je déconseille juste d’acheter le café auprès des marchands ambulants de la plage car il est vraiment pas terrible”

Cancun: Interactive Aquarium – Swim with Dolphins Splash

10.Interactive Aquarium – Swim with Dolphins Splash

★★★★★★★★★★4.1 · 49 reviews · 35 min · from $127

At Interactive Aquarium Cancún in Plaza La Isla, you’ll join a small group of up to 10 for a 35-minute dolphin program. Expect a presentation, dolphin facts, a kiss, and about 20 minutes in the water. Bring swimwear and ID, and leave cameras and jewelry behind.

“We loved this experience, it was something we’ve always wanted to do and it didn’t disappoint. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and the dolphins were all very calm and you get to see their behaviours beforehand which the guide reassures you of, but with a 5 year old it was definitely something in the back of our heads we were wondering. Worth every penny.”

Spend 40 minutes with two dolphins learning about their fins, teeth, and blowhole, then share a 10-minute water encounter with manatees at Chankanaab Park. A small group of up to 10, buffet lunch, VIP-area access, and open bar are included. Bring cash, but leave cameras and sunscreen behind.

“Heel slechte ervaring. Weggegooid geld dus!”

All the staff were happy and friendly and made it a lovely day. The food was good with a nice selection. would recommend 👌”
